Bart & Ward

In the winter of 2017 the decision was made that the lightweight men’s four would be removed from future Olympic rowing programmes. The lightweight men, who normally had six spots to fill at the Olympic games, now only had two spots. This made two boys from The Netherlands think: “What if we were to fill these spots for the Dutch National team?”

The plan itself developed over the winter of 2018, when two friends got together and found out they rowed faster together than they had ever done with anybody else. From that moment on Bart & Ward, both living in Leiden, decided to take the leap and train as hard as they could. Currently they are training about 13 times a week, dedicated to make their way up in the international field. And I, as both girlfriend and fangirl, decided to follow them with my camera. Here you find a selection of the photos that I took of them so far.
